About SquawkFree

SquawkFree was born out of a simple problem: a stack of paper logbooks with records dating back to 1958 and no good way to back them up.

I'm Trent — an engineer and GA aircraft owner. I tend to approach problems the same way — break them down, figure out what's missing, and build a solution. I wanted a digital home for my maintenance records. Somewhere I could search decades of entries, track AD compliance, and know that if anything ever happened to the paper, I'd still have everything. So I started looking at what was out there.

The options I found were impressive on the feature side, but the pricing told a different story. Most platforms were built for commercial operators or MROs, and they charged accordingly. For a GA owner who just wants a clean digital backup of their logbooks, the cost was hard to justify. Let's be honest — we can be cheap. Paper logs have worked for decades. Digitizing your records is a luxury, not a necessity, for most GA operations. If I was going to pay for it, the price had to make sense.

So I did what any engineer would do — I built what I wanted.

I also didn't want another app. Most people don't. As a developer, building the core functionality and back end was enough work — a native app was not on the table. Instead, SquawkFree is a website built for desktop that scales cleanly to mobile, giving you an app-like experience in your browser without another download cluttering up your phone.

SquawkFree is a straightforward, feature-rich digital logbook for general aviation. It tracks flights, maintenance, ADs, squawks, and documents. It handles pre-flight checklists, aircraft scheduling, shared access for co-owners and clubs, and even flight school operations with weather briefings, CFI scheduling, and dispatch billing. And it does all of this at a price that a typical GA owner can look at and say “yeah, that's fair.”

SquawkFree started as one owner's side project and grew into a platform built for the GA community. I'm excited to go on this journey with my customers — to keep improving SquawkFree together and make general aviation a safer and more enjoyable experience.
